CONSERVATION, RECYCLING, AND SUSTAINABILITY.
Climate change includes both the global warming driven by human emissions of greenhouse gases, and the resulting large-scale shifts in weather patterns.
The potential future effects of global climate change include more frequent wildfires, longer periods of drought in some regions and an increase in the number, duration and intensity of tropical storms.
Effects of Climate Change
Forests are nature’s greatest technology for combating climate change: they naturally absorb carbon dioxide (CO2), reducing the amount of this heat-trapping gas in our atmosphere.
Deforestation is one of the largest source of C02 emissions after the burning of fossil fuels. Scientists estimate up to 13% of global carbon emissions come from deforestation.
Wema International initiates climate change projects by:
-
Helping communities in developing countries create and implement strategies to manage and use their forests responsibly.
-
Ensuring that global climate change initiatives to reduce forest loss and degradation.
-
Helping countries and regions assess the benefits nature provides under various development and climate change projects.
-
Reducing Energy Consumption by designing an “energy use” calendar or create a “challenge” to encourage students, families, and the greater community to reduce their consumption.
-
Teaming up with youth groups in different communities to organize a beach, city, school, or village clean up day.
-
Encourage more recycling and composting as a practice in the communities.
-
Working to end illegal logging.
Energy Conservation
Initiate energy conservation strategies and educate the community on energy saving and preservation methods like energy saving cookstoves and bio-digesters for gas fuel. Introducing or supporting potential various alternative energy resources into the community like solar power and wind energy.
Environmental Cleaning Campaign:
WEMA International (kind acts of giving) teamed up with youth groups in different communities to organize a cleaning campaign in several public places in the cities and within communities.
Sustainable Gardening:
Organizing workshops and training to communities to create awareness and initiate alternative methods in sustainable gardening and water and soil preservation.
Storm Drain Awareness:
Create awareness to the public about the problems of dumping waste in storm drains by stenciling messages adjacent to neighborhood storm drains.
Park to Community:
Green parks are important places for communities to organize recreational activities as well as communal activities.
With coordination with the local park management and artists to create art (murals, sculptures, etc.) to show case the creativity within the community or region.
Community Waste Management:
WEMA International helps to implement community waste management projects by encouraging people to properly manage waste . As the waste is the resources so, the 3R (Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle) principle will be adopted to manage community-level waste.
Various activities that include awareness projects will be organized to reduce, recycle, and reuse the waste.
Energy Conservation:
Introducing or supporting potential various alternative energy resources into the community like solar power, energy-saving fire stoves, bio-mass.
